challah

Easy Challah (egg bread)

I never had challah, but the bread was so beautiful that I decided making it. It is the easiest bread to make! As a beginner do not try a six strand braiding like i did, do the three strands braiding as it was easier. My kids love it so much. The left overs are best for french toast!

challah

Ingredients

8 cups of all-purpose flour

2 and 1/2 cup lukewarm water

4 large eggs (reserve a little white for egg wash)

1/4 cup olive oil

1/2 cup honey

1 Tbsp of instant yeast

2 teaspoons salt

Instructions

1

Dissolve the yeast in the bowl of your lukewarm water.

2

Mix all liquid ingredients in a large bowl with the yeast water

3

Add the flour one cup at a time while mixing

4

Knead the dough for 6 to 8 minutes until the dough is soft, smooth, and shapeable.

5

Place the dough in an oiled bowl, cover with towel, and set it somewhere warm until the double its size by rising.

6

After rising, divide your dough in 6 equal part and roll each into ropes.

7

Braid your rope at your like.( The three strands are easier than the six strands. You can make 2 3-strand pieces or 1 6-strand piece).

8

Once done braiding, place the braided challah in a on your baking pan lined with parchment paper.

9

Let the braided challah rise for about 1 hour until puffed.

10

Brush the challah with egg wash. Bake at 375 for 45minutes
